Nov 9th 2008 Choosing a Perfect Camp Site
If you want to get away from your daily routines of work, school, sleep and eat then camping is a great choice. It provides the chance to experience nature to an extent that most people just can’t do everyday.
How to choose the perfect camping location?
Before looking for the ideal camp site, you must first find a campground that meets your needs. Many campgrounds now have internet websites, which makes this task much easier. You can check out the campsites through the website before actually going there, allowing you to make an educated decision about your choice of campground.
Keep in mind however that much like menu-pictures in a restaurant, a campsite always looks a bit more glorified than it actually is.
Before you can choose a campsite you will need to know which type of camping you’ll be doing. Some campgrounds offer primitive camping, but when you see primitive on the sign, what does that mean?
At a primitive campground you will need to bring everything with you that you will need. This includes toilet paper, lots of water, radio, gear, shelter, etc. Deep in the wilderness is were these primitive campsites are located, you’ll be hard pressed to find showers, (running) water, electricity, or toilets.
At the other end of the spectrum, you’ll come across campgrounds that provide connections for water, sewage, and electricity – all with a glorious natural backdrop. Some campgrounds have super-upgraded their amenities and will even have a spa!
Many campgrounds are balanced within these two extremes. Camping in private parks usually includes all the amenities you could possibly desire. Many offer washers and dryers, shopping areas and arcades and they are glad to accommodate customers planning on an extended stay. The majority of private parks have family oriented activites for all including but not limited to bingo, sport competitions for children, fun games for the kids, human stratego, etc.
Fees for the Campground
Fees at private parks are generally higher than those of public campgrounds. State park campgrounds can have any level of amenities, from primitive tent campgrounds to near-luxury resorts. Some have electric hookups, showers, flushing toilets, swimming pools, guided excursions, playgrounds, etc.
State and national forest parks are normally fairly basic. You are likely to discover fire pits, picnic tables and primitive toilets. Prices on these campground are in the right price range for everyone, sometimes even free.
Make your campground reservations early during good weather.
When the weather is beautiful, most people will pick a campground early and stay there to enjoy the day as opposed to drive the whole day for a far-away campsite. To get the best spot you must arrive early and have a bit of luck.
Would you prefer a location close to the swimming pool and play area? The children will find this quite convenient, but you may find yourself dealing with excess noise and too much foot traffic. This is also the case with sites in close proximity to bathrooms and showers. Expect to have a constant stream of pedestrians outside your tent.
Do you want a quiet, isolated setting or do you prefer to be in the midst of the hustle-bustle? With the wide variety of options camping offers there are sure to be features or activities that appeal to everyone; you will locate the perfect campground for you and your family.
